NOTICE: AS OF JUNE 11, 2009, LAWTOP HAS SUSPENDED OPERATION. GOOGLE NEWS HAS CHANGED THE WAY IT PUTS OUT THE RESULTS OF A SEARCH, WHICH MEANS LAWTOP NO LONGER FUNCTIONS PROPERLY. WE'RE ATTEMPTING REPAIRS AND WILL RE-INSTATE LAW TOP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
LawTop is a simple exercise in making Canadian law-related news stories available in a convenient fashion. There is no magic here: the heavy lifting is done with Google News. But LawTop has come up with the search terms, chosen the sources, filtered the results and put it all together in a package that we hope is well-designed. If you're interested in learning more about the sources or the search terms, click on the "sources" or "about" links in the sidebar.
Using the links in the sidebar, you can choose the number of stories you want to follow — 10, 25 or 50 — and whether you'd like to see the headlines and a brief excerpt or only the headlines.
Although LawTop provides RSS feeds and email notification, we think that you'll enjoy using the website best: the stories Google sends are those that are the most recent, and they're sent when you arrive at or refresh the LawTop page of your choosing, which keeps things up-to-the-minute. RSS and email are delivered infrequently and will always be to some extent out of date.
We hope you enjoy the convenience that LawTop provides, and we look forward to your comments.
